Ear Worm

July 3, 2012

On Thursday night I went to the launch of the NZFF program me, ( I know it is like going to the opening of a letter but I don’t get out much…) I had not read my email correctly so had no idea what  shape the proceedings would take,  I arrived chatted with some old friends, expected some speeches but instead I found myself filing into the cinema.

After a very long speech the movie finally started.

Searching for the Sugarman.

It is the unbeilevable true story of Sixto Rodriguez.  I knew nothing about him, save for a vague memory of this song, it was the sliver magic wings line that got me..

The  documentary is tight, surprising, heartwarming, joyful, humbling and reminds us of an pre google time.

It is on in the film festival and if you get to anything, try to make it to this. I have had these songs stuck in my head since then, and given things have been a bit rough over the weekend, it is nice to have them as company.
