Mrs Blacksmith and Friends

Mrs Blacksmith and Friends

Over the next few weeks guest bloggers will be sharing their take on Love, Lycra and Surprizing Adventures. First up, it’s my great pleasure to introduce Gabe McDonnell, a very clever, funny writer who also happens be someone I’ve shared many lycra clad adventures with. Dear Journal…. Typical, suburban evening. Woman turns to her husband to comment on something she’s reading in bed to find that he too, is...

Fantasy Dater

April 30, 2012

Before I was Mrs Blacksmith I was Angela Aphrodite Troy, CEO of The ManBank. Here, along with Cleopatra Jane Matahari we developed (through completely unscientific methods) a Guide to Discovering Your True Dating Identity.

A few weeks ago the team at Random House held a brainstorming session on  the marketing and publicity of Sea Fever and decided it would be a good idea to lock me a room for 20 minutes and come back with a camera. I freaked out, asked twitter what I should do, got lots of ‘OMG really they have locked you in a room?’ replies to which I had to answer ‘not really locked but this place is a rabbit warren so effectively I am’.

I should also add that I was nursing a crippling hangover. Anyway this is what happened.

And in the spirit of randomness – this is a picture of a wolf I’d like to date.

Dear Te Ikaroa,

April 25, 2012
Dear Te Ikaroa,

How are you? I’m sorry it didn’t work out between us. I really am.  This morning Ross and I talked about our time with you. I got all choked up while making my lunch and had to do deep calming breaths so my make-up wouldn’t run.  I thought I was over you, but I guess I’m not. The thing is, I miss you. I miss your shining wood, your...

The Prac Fac.

The Prac Fac.

I call it the prac fac.  There is the wow fac, the cool fac, the holy crap fac but the prac fac seems to be The Fac. What am I talking about? The practical factor. For me shanks’s pony is my transport de jour. I trip up and down stairs, I stride across squares, I pick my way down bustling boluvades, I trudge up hills- in short I walk....

Sunshine of Your Love

April 19, 2012

Walking to work this morning, I contemplated my time in London. It’s a few years since I left but I tell ya what, every time I hear this song I am transported back to Bistrotech, a tutu, and being a spankette to Rhys Morgan’s Spanky . Plus it is marvelous day in the capital!

Shout, shout let it all out..

Who remembers ringing up the radio station and requesting shout-outs for your mates? It was about the same time that prank calls were a popular past time.. back in the time before facebook, mobile phones and the internet… remember? Yes? No? Well I do and so last week I had a flash back to a former life, my pre-husband and child life, the life when I could do what...

Advanced Copy!!

I was sitting in my office, managing the announcement of the new director of City Gallery Wellington, when a parcel arrived on my desk. It was from Random House.  It was heavy; book heavy. I felt it up, shook it up and ripped into it. It was the BOOK. I burst into tears (which is actually quiet embarrassing at work), because a) it was a real book that I...
